Healing the Experience of Stuckness in Life

Toward the One, the Perfection of Love, Harmony and Beauty, the Only Being, United with All the Illuminated Souls, who form the Embodiment of the Master- the Spirit of Guidance

From Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan: …true freedom is in ourselves. When one’s soul is free, then there is nothing in this world that binds one; everywhere one will breathe freedom, in heaven and on earth.

When you feel stuck, there are meditative techniques you can use.

1- Go to a park, or a place abounding with life and take a walk. As you breathe in and out, let your self absorb from the life around you, and absorb from the source of that life. Think of the nature all around you and the life flowing through it. If something comes to your mind that is causing stress, write it down, and then bring your attention back to the nature around you.
Then, before you leave, feel your feet on the ground. Throw the paper away. Breathe in, and let the life from deep below – deep in the earth – flow into you, healing fear, strengthening and revitalizing you. As you breathe out, let go of all that is ready to go. Repeat this a few times.

2- Use the power of prayer. Ask for help with that which is stuck or holding you back.
Then, breathe in noticing your breath gathering above your head, and being touched by divine grace. Breathe out letting that breath which is touched with grace flow down to your heart, revitalizing, renewing, restoring, and charging the heart with just what it needs at this time. Do this a few times.

3- Place your problems, or your feeling of stuckness, in fire and light. You could build a fire and write those things that need help on a piece of paper, and put the paper in the fire. Or you can imagine a fire or a light that can hold anything. Use your imagination to put those things in that fire or light. Let them be transformed.

Then, as you breathe in, feel your thought, and especially your memory, being filled with light. Breathe out letting the mind, the memory, and the flow of the blood be transformed by fire and/or light. Do this a few times.

4- Go outdoors or to an open window. Feel the freshness of the air and let that air flow around you.
Then breathe in letting that air flow throughout your being, even your feelings and your attitudes about life or life situations. As you breathe out let the breath soften your inner terrain, even your attitudes, with life and joy. Do this a few times.

Murshid suggests:
-That one remember a baby, and those times the baby is moving the hands and feet and smiling in ecstasy at the joy of life.

-Remember a beautiful painting and think of the moment that the painting was being created and the ecstasy of beauty.

-Think of a dance one saw, when the dancers were moved beyond strength and correct motion, to beauty beyond measure.

-One could think of the sunrise.

May the blessing of God rest upon you, may God’s peace abide in you, may God’s presence illuminate your heart, now and forever.
